You're scared, you're nervous. You don't deserve what God has bestowed on you. I see now that this is His way of taking it back. You've failed His test -- then again most humans are like you: too weak to pass.

I'm just a man. That's all I am, all I ever was, ever will be.  I never asked for this. Never said I was gonna save anyone-- I can't.  I just gotta get out.

[She prods him gently with power, not really an attempt to heal, but more a... question.]

How do you feel?

[ Castiel hangs back in wait. If he can be tired, he doesn't show it.

As he watches Anna do what she (in his opinion) does best, Castiel begins to probe at the barrier with what strength he has left. Expecting the resistance and consequences that usually accompanies his frequent attempts at conquering it, he raises his chin when that resistance doesn't greet him.

Anna will tend to Ben; this is his justification when he steps backward and moves around them to confirm what could very well be a deity's game of deceit. ]

Like some sonuvabitch knocked me in the chest? [ The prod is still enough to make him snap up, far too used to the motto: any feeling is a bad feeling. ] I'm fine.

[ Not that he doesn't feel a trace of anger for having private memories meddled with. ]

I asked you to do whatever you had to get it done.

It doesn't mean I don't still owe you an apology. [She moves back slightly, but doesn't release him, keeping her hand on his shoulder.]

Can I get you back inside? You should rest.

[Looking over at her once student, friend and comrade-at-arms, she speaks the question she really wants to ask.]

Castiel? Did it work, do you think you can get out?

I'm not positive. I'll need to make sure.

[ He disappears in a moment, sucking the space in around him while using energy that comes with excitement and anticipation. It doesn't take long for him to return, his previously stoic countenance now turned over to reveal what had been a tempest below. Where before he was almost a statue, now Castiel is complete motion. ]

It worked.

[ He stalks toward them, canted forward on nervous energy. ]

Something's coming in, we need to move quickly.

What's comin' after us? [ What if this moment lasts only a minute? What if the barrier will close - ] To hell with that, Castiel! We-- I gotta go through. Now. While the damn thing's still wide open.

[ Even with his energy dragging, he forces his way past Anna and Castiel and toward the edge of the ocean - how he plans to cross it, well, he didn't exactly plan that properly did he? ]

I brought it down. [ He glances toward the water, edging one foot in. ] You got wings, don't you? Both of you.

[ Castiel looks to Anna briefly, before settling into a decisive (mostly) answer. He is largely unimpressed with this stubborn trait that humans seem to tend to have. Castiel's first instinct is to forbid Ben from even nearing the barrier. ]

I don't know what is out there, exactly. I know that it will get you killed.

[ Of course, without that willful stubbornness, Castiel and Anna's world would have been sucked quite literally into hell, so. His tone of voice is not as strong in his denial of Ben's request as he might like it to be. ]

[It isn't that she questions Castiel, exactly, it's that they've tried so hard. To fix this place, to stop the pain it causes or at least allow those who wish to escape it.]

It's my choice. [ He declares, though the quiet of his voice points to uncertainty. Castiel could be right, an angel, surely would know, but he's too close to just back off. How many days, minutes had he spent trying to figure a way out?

And here it was. ]

Then I'll find a way. By myself. Neither of you're needed no more. I'll handle it on my own. [ Steal a boat, or something of the sort. ]

[ The look Castiel gives Anna indicates the only thing he is certain of is that something isn't quite right, but he also finds himself eager to investigate. The problem is he isn't sure he wants to bring Ben along for the look-see. ]

We could easily stop you.

[ But even those words have very little confidence behind them. Ben's his own man, with his own decisions to make (besides, he's the one that just brought the entire barrier down). And Castiel really does want to go take a look at the situation out there. He looks to Anna again, this time a question quirking up his eyebrows. Should they go? If they do, should they take him with them? ]

Why? [ He turns toward Castiel, raising him a piercing glance. ] I asked you 'cause I knew you were ones I could trust. Angels.

[ Ben pauses. He is clearly nervous about being up front about what would otherwise be blasphemy. ]

You know what I can do. I thought you'd understand. But in the end, it's my choice- whether I go or not. Ain't any your business. [Stated even more firmly.] We ain't even from the same world.

Enough. Both of you. [The last thing Anna wants is more fighting. She's tired of it. Tried to get away from it and it never leaves her. Turning to Ben, she chooses to ignore Castiel for the moment.]

You're tired, that had to take a lot of you. Stay, try and prepare those you can.

[She gives a glance to Cas.] We'll check things out and come back.

[ It's not often that Castiel looks so frustrated - sighing and moving to argue until Anna speaks to Ben. He knows the look in the man's features. It's the same hard-headed attitude he had seen in Dean, even in Sam and Bobby.

It's what makes Castiel feel somewhat akin to him.

At Anna's second suggestion, however, Castiel is back on board. It would take less time and be much wiser for the two angels to go and scout the situation without Ben for now. Whether he accepts that opinion is another story entirely. ]
